Eoghan Quinn is doing something quite extraordinary. In early July 2019, he'll be attempting to break a world record by kitesurfing non-stop from France to Ireland in about 16 hours. He's doing this to raise money and awareness for a cause very close to his heart. So, we've teamed up with Quiksilver to supply Eoghan with the kit he needs to brave this gruelling challenge. Amid trips around the world for intense training sessions and sponsorship pledges, we managed to catch up with Eoghan and discuss how he's feeling as the date edges closer...
"This summer, I'm attempting to kite surf non-stop from France to Ireland. I'll be covering just over 600km of open water and am expecting it to take about 16 hours, which will hopefully break a world record! Similar to international surf and kiting events, the challenge will be weather-dependent, but we are confident that it will go ahead in early July. I'm so grateful to be supported by an international group of sponsors, as without them this event wouldn't be possible."
"When I was 4 years of age I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. It was preconceived by my healthcare professionals that there would be barriers obstructing my potential due to my condition. I've since been determined to break down these barriers by taking on international solo challenges. I aim to raise awareness for diabetes and inspire the younger generation to set their targets high, anything is achievable."
"Over the last few months, I have been building up core and leg strength to make the challenge a reality. I'm currently living in Scotland and have been getting out in the cold water conditions on the kite as much as possible. Fortunately, the Highline Plus wetsuits, boots and gloves supplied by Wetsuit Outlet have helped me stay warm and mobile in the chilly water temperatures."
"As the end of June approaches I have mixed emotions, but I think excitement is the best way to describe how I'm feeling. There has been a lot of preparation put into developing this challenge, and I've really put my all into training for it so...fingers crossed!"
